Common Causes Of Acne
*Here Are Several Causes Of Acne Divided Into 3 Factor Categories:
External Factors That Cause Acne
1. Skin Care Products
Improper skin care products such as oily and heavy make-ups causes acne. Oily make-ups add more oil to your skin which is even more worse if oily skin exists. Heavy make-ups have been known to clog pores too. Some herbal medications that have not been proven can be very dangerous to yous skin too, so it’s better not to use any skin product that isn’t proven to be effective and safe.
2. Environmental Issues
High environmental humidity can cause swelling of the skin and pollution is of course the big cause of clogged pores. Over exposing yourself to the sun is not healthy for your skin too. It can damage your skin and worsen existing acne. It has been discovered that some acne products can make your skin to be sensitive to the sun which is even more worse.
3. Over Abrasive Cleansing
Harsh exfoliators can damage the skin and spread infections or bacteria everywhere and deeper into your skin. Again, washing your face vigorously can worsen acne.
4. Washing Your Face Too Often
Do not wash your face too much as this can cause stimulation of oil glands. We highly recommend that you wash your face with lukewarm water (avoid cold water as it can dry your skin and hot water can dehydrate or burn/damage your skin) and mild soap. Wash an average of 2-3 times a day.
5. Certain Medications and Steroids
Vitamins are essential to your body, but an excess of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 can cause acne flare-ups. These vitamins are good and essential for the skin but avoid overusing them.
6. Picking and Squeezing Of Your Skin
This causes scarring of the skin and also sends infections deeper into the skin. Avoid picking and squeezing any acne that you may have.
Internal Factors That Cause Acne
1. Hormones
This is the known number one cause of acne. Production of sex hormones known as androgen are the ones responsible for at least many cases of acne. This can explain why the majority of acne sufferers are teens and adolescents. These hormones are very much responsible for their flare-ups during menstruation and pregnancy.
2. Extra Sebum On The Skin
Sebum is produced by sebaceous gland. This is a natural and normal process that takes place. androgens stimulate sebaceous gland which produces extra sebum. It moves up the follicle towards the surface and then mixes with common skin bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the follicle. This presence of extra sebum in follicle increase the chances of clogging…and Acne. Sebum responsible of making our skin water proof which is good.
3. Genes/Genetic
This is simply hereditary through family members who are also acne sufferers. Acne is inherited and severe cases known as Cystic Acne usually come from heredity. Therefore some severe cases of acne can be passed from generation to generation through hereditary.
4. Bacteria Factors
Propionibacterium Acnes (P. Acne)-This is a type of bacteria that causes acne. This type of bacteria attacks white blood cells produce enzymes that causes inflammation and redness. This type of bacteria cannot be eliminated but can be reduced and through reduction of P. Acne bacteria can effectively reduce acne inflammation.
Miscellaneous Factors
*Diet/Food
Some types of food are known to cause acne but at least not on every individual. There may be individual differences in that certain foods do flare-up acne lesions in some people. If you determine that you are sensitive to some kind of food, discontinuing that food is recommended. A diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can actually aggravate acne.
Stress
This is a psychological issue related to production of cortisol hormones which can aggravate acne. Stress brings upon different hormone levels. With these hormone changes, the body prompts the skin ’s oil glands to enlarge , secreting more oil , which causes white beads, black heads and Pimples.
